After many years of praying and waiting on God Asian Concerns International was started in 2012.
In 1996, through some Asian friends the vision to reach the lost for Christ in Asia was shared at, then Forest Glen Community Church in Chicago, IL. After much prayer and waiting on the Lord the congregation, by faith, voted to reach the lost in Asia . Then, in the fall of the same year, under the leadership of Pastor John M. Wendel, then Senior Pastor of Forest Glen Community Church, the church commissioned a two man team and the ministry begane. This was the first time the church had undertaken such a ministry. Two training seminars for national Christian leaders were planned. Over 80% of the participants had never received this type of formal training! The two seminars proved to be very successful and encouraging. There were many other teaching opportunities that kept the two men very busy during their five week stay in the subcontinent. Total attendance at all speaking venues exceeded ten thousand. For a very small congregation this was a humongous task, but God, in His faithfulness raised needed people and finances from within this small congregation. For several years the church's ministry was very much limited, but, since the needs in Asia were huge, the church held it's very first five-nation leaders' conference in the fall of 2012, inviting Christian leaders from South East Asia. Ever since the ministry has now (as of February 2017) grown to 14 Asian countries!
Since 1996, more than 5,000 pastors and evangelists have received training – most of them for the first time. Of these trained around 500 have been called into fulltime ministry. It was Pastor Wendel's encouragement and the backing of, Forest Glen Community Church of Chicago, IL that were used by God to bear such fruit.
Asia, the largest continent is home to more than 60% of the world's population. Asia is also the seat of all major religions of the world and several countries in Asia do not welcome traditional Western missionaries, who would normally have to go through ethnic and cultural barries and learn the native language. However, national Christians do not have to contend with language, ethnic and cultural barriers. Most countries in Asia lack ministries that empower and encourage national leaders. Realizing the huge need, Asian Concerns International (ACI) was born on Thursday, April 12, 2012 Asian Concerns International was born.
Asian Concerns International has only one single scriptural goal in mind – based on 2 Timothy 2:2, “You have heard me teach many things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Teach these great truths to trustworthy people who are able to pass them on to others.” ACI realizes that the greatest need in Asia is training nationals, and God will give the increase. Yes, the fields are ripe for a great spiritual harvest in Asia.
